In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Harvard College undergraduates often copied academic texts and lecture notes into personal notebooks in place of printed textbooks. Nathaniel Eells (1677-1750), a Massachusetts minister, was born on November 26, 1677 in Milford, Conn. He received an AB from Harvard in 1699 and an AM in 1702.
